GABBA Annual Symposium 2011, July 8 at Porto, Portugal

What makes us human?

What makes this Symposium... utterly human

We have started our journey as Humans a long time ago, even before dominating the fire from the stars, at which edge we soon began wondering about life and its mysteries. Evolution went across our genomes to provide us with the expression of complex emotions, so fundamental to the development of an intricate social network on which we became dependent to survive. Connections inside our brains were changing, raising something close to the kind of curiosity that would drive us to other continents on Earth, even to new worlds outside our own. For the time being, a novel transformation has taken place – we have been learning how to mask our biological inabilities, opening a freeway to an actual enhancement of our capacities.

These are, in a brief notice, the basal grounds in which we erected this year's meeting. What makes us human? is indeed the most important question we imagine a human can take along its life, and to which answer we hope this gathering will be able to add a contribution.

On behalf of the organising committee, we are very pleased to welcome all the participants of the GABBA Annual Symposium 2011.
