welcome at the GABBA Annual Symposium 2011 website

The GABBA PhD Program (Graduate program in Areas of Basic and Applied Biology) started in 1996/1997 as a reunion of four pre-existent MSc programs at the University of Porto (UP). It has strong links with the faculties: Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and the Abel Salazar Institute for Biomedical Sciences, and with two major institutions at Porto: IBMC/INEB (Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology/Institute of Biomedical Engineering) and IPATIMUP (Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto). It has a length of 4 years, being a PhD Fellowship awarded to the selected candidates, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), also funding the program running costs.

The program annually gathers 12 candidate students, selected from diverse backgrounds, taking ingression in a first academic semester, where a diverse range of topics are taught and discussed (see here for an overview of the program module). This one-year learning process culminates with a one-day international symposium on a theme of their choice, which reflects their joint work and efforts in the organisation.

Hope to see you in Porto on July 8
